Your first visit

New to the practice, or haven't seen a dentist in a while? Here's exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.

Step by step

1
Book

Book online and choose a time that suits you, or call us on 07 3162 8755. If anything is worrying you, mention it when you book.

2
Before you come

Bring your health fund card if you have one, and a list of any medicines you take. If you've seen another dentist recently, let us know and we can ask them for your records.

3
When you arrive

There's free parking at the rear of the building, and wheelchair access at the front. You'll fill in a short health form on an iPad at reception.

4
The check-up

We start by talking: your medical history and anything that's bothering you. Then we check your teeth and gums. Depending on what we find, that can include digital x-rays and photos.

5
Before any treatment

We explain what we've found and your options, in plain English, along with the costs. You decide what happens next — nothing is done without your say-so. You can claim your health fund rebate on the spot with HICAPS.

If you hate going to the dentist

You're not alone, and you won't be the first person to tell us. Maybe you had a bad experience as a child, or you've put it off so long that you're worried about what we'll find. Either way, tell us — we won't take it personally.

It helps to mention it when you book. On the day:

  • we'll explain each step before we do it
  • if you need an injection, we'll check you're properly numb before we start
  • we'll keep appointments as short as we can
  • you're welcome to listen to music or watch TV with headphones while we work
  • if you need more help to relax, ask us about sedation and we'll go through the options

Putting it off usually makes things worse: by the time a tooth hurts, the fix tends to be bigger and more expensive. Coming in for a check-up now usually means simpler treatment, or none at all.

Bringing the kids?

Children are welcome from their first teeth. See children's dentistry for what a child's first visit involves.
