Payment options

How you can pay, what your health fund or government cover pays on the day, and what to do if a bigger cost is worrying you.

Ways to pay

You can pay by credit card, or with Afterpay or Zip, and claim your health fund on the spot with HICAPS. For anything more than a check-up, we give you the price before we start treatment.

Claim your health fund on the spot

If you have extras cover, we claim it for you at the desk with HICAPS, so your fund's share comes straight off the bill and you only pay the difference (the "gap"). Bring your health fund card.

We accept all health funds and we're a preferred provider with HCF. With most health funds, check-ups and cleans have no gap to pay.

How much your fund pays depends on your policy. To check before you come in, ask us for the item numbers for your treatment and give them to your fund. The common check-up ones are on our check-up page.

Veterans (DVA)

Veterans' Affairs patients have no gap to pay for treatment DVA covers. What's covered depends on your card, so we'll check with you before you come in.

Children: the Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Eligible children can have their dental care bulk-billed to Medicare, so there's nothing to pay for covered treatment. Who's eligible and what's covered.

Spreading the cost

For larger treatment you can spread the cost with Afterpay or Zip. If cost is worrying you, tell us. Bigger treatment can often be done in stages, and we'll go through the options with you so you can plan.

Early access to superannuation

You may be able to access your superannuation on compassionate grounds to pay for dental treatment that is medically necessary for you or a dependant, through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

Key rules for accessing super

  • Last resort: compassionate release is only available if you can't pay for the treatment another way, such as from savings or insurance.
  • Not for cosmetic work: the treatment must treat a life-threatening illness or injury, or relieve acute or chronic pain or mental illness. Purely cosmetic treatment, such as teeth whitening, isn't eligible.
  • Medical reports required: you need two reports supporting the treatment, one from a doctor and one from a dentist, or from two dentists.
