Questions people ask us

The questions we hear most at the front desk. If yours isn't here, call us — we're happy to help.

Is dental treatment covered by Medicare?

Mostly no. Medicare doesn't cover most dental care for adults, so there's no bulk billing. The main exception is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule for eligible children. If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you can claim your rebate on the spot with HICAPS and pay only the difference.

How much does a check-up cost?

An examination is $59, and x-rays are $47 each if you need them. With most health funds, a check-up and clean has no gap to pay. See our fees page for more.

Which health funds do you work with?

We're a preferred provider with HCF. Veterans' Affairs patients have no gap to pay for treatment DVA covers, and eligible children can be bulk-billed through Medicare's Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Book online to see the next free times, or call us. If you're in pain, call rather than booking online so we can find you the earliest time.

Are you specialists?

No. We're a general dental practice and do everyday dentistry for the whole family. If you need a specialist, we'll explain why and talk to you about a referral.

I'm really anxious about the dentist. What can you do?

Tell us when you book. We'll explain everything as we go and take it at your pace, and you're welcome to listen to music or watch TV with headphones during treatment. If you need more help to relax, ask us about sedation and we'll go through the options with you.

I have gaps where teeth were taken out. What are my options?

The main ways to replace missing teeth are a bridge, a denture or a dental implant. Each has advantages and drawbacks, and the right one depends on your mouth. We'll go through them with you, and you'll know the cost before we start.

A tooth turned grey after an injury. What does that mean?

It's often a sign the nerve inside has died. An x-ray tells us for sure. Treatment is usually root canal treatment, sometimes followed by whitening the tooth from the inside or a crown.

How much does it cost to take a tooth out?

It depends on how difficult the tooth is to remove, which we can only tell after an examination and usually an x-ray. We'll give you the cost before we start.

Do you have discounts for pensioners?

Yes, we have a pensioner discount. Ask us about it when you book.

Do you use amalgam (silver-mercury) fillings?

No. We use tooth-coloured fillings.

Can I spread the cost of treatment?

Yes. You can spread the cost with Afterpay or Zip, and larger treatment can often be done over several visits. We'll tell you which parts are urgent and which can wait.
